It’s Christmas time at 30 Rock! Jack is reveling in the news of the hurricane that will keep his mother’s plane from departing to bring her to New York. Liz can’t wait for her perfect parents and innocent brother to arrive. The TGS staff is looking forward to their Christmas party they call “Luda-Christmas.” Unfortunately, things never go as planned at 30 Rock.

Jack’s mother does arrive and we find out why he was looking forward to a mother-less Christmas. She’s negative…about EVERYTHING. His office isn’t big enough for her. He should’ve been promoted by now. He should probably look at a different job.

The Lemon family arrives and Liz is ecstatic. Her parents are a bundle of positive reinforcement. Her brother is, well stuck in 1985. He had a skiing accident and thinks he is still in 1985, so the family supports it. Jack can’t believe this family is real. Liz’s parents shower Jack with compliments sucking him into their tractor beam. Jack would rather spend the day with Liz’s family then with his mother.

Jack’s mom finds Jack with the Lemon family out on the ice rink taking a family picture.
In disgust of the Lemon’s sun-shiny personality, Jack’s mom promises that every family has it problems and she’ll see to it that Jack sees the Lemon’s true colors. By the end of dinner at a TGI Friday’s like restaurant called “Saturdaze” Jack’s mom has asked enough of the right questions to turn the Lemon’s south. Turns out her parents weren’t as supportive as she thought, never attending the one high school football game she fought so hard to play in. Liz blurts out that her brother is actually forty years old. That makes him mad at everyone. At this point the Lemon family is arguing over each other. Jack and his mom are smiling, knowing that the Lemon’s are just like them.

Back at the studio the Luda-Christmas gets replaced with a much needed lesson about the true meaning of Christmas by none other then Kenneth the page. Showing them that Christmas is more then just receiving gifts, eating too much food, and getting sloppy drunk, Kenneth uses the help of his pastor and a video about unfortunate children in Guatemala and their Christmas presents – pieces of wood. The TGS staff gets the message and realizes that Christmas means giving, volunteering, and…cutting down the huge Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center? Maybe they overreacted.

I hope you have a Safe & Happy Holidays!
