At the top of the episode, Samantha gets in Dena’s car with a rifle. When Dena asks what in the world is going on, Sam says it all has to do with her trying to have a relationship with her father.

The screen tells us that three days ago, Sam and her parents are in an ice cream parlor trying to figure out which flavor of ice cream is Sam’s favorite when The Go-Go’s “We Got The Beat” comes on the radio and Sam breaks down in tears. Later that same day, Sam walks with Todd and she’s asking him if that song has any meaning to him. She can’t remember the words to the song but she does a bad hum rendition of it. As they’re walking a guy with a bag of groceries spots Sam and takes off running from her. She yells after him to stop but he keeps running, causing Sam to throw an orange at his back. Girl’s got a good arm, too. Obviously, whatever she did to this guy scared the beejebus out of him because he’s yelling something about a restraining order.

Andrea and Sam look through a legal file on the restraining order and it turns out the reason the order was filed was because old Sam was stalking him(Nathan). Sam gets Nathan’s address and goes to his apartment, but he won’t let her in. She tries to apologize through the door but he’s not buying it and sneaks down the fire escape. Next we see Nathan going to his car in the parking garage and Sam pops up out of the back seat. She finally convinces Nathan that she had amnesia and has no idea why she would be stalking him and therefore he has no reason to be scared. As they’re talking a car rolls by playing “We Got The Beat” and Sam breaks down again.

Sam’s venting to her parents about her craptastic day and neither of them are listening. Mom’s talking about how she never even mentioned Nathan before and how she’s never getting grandkids and Dad is cleaning his rifle and waxing philosophical about deer stands and hunting. Sam doesn’t even notice.

Over drinks, Andrea concludes that Sam has daddy issues. Sam doesn’t want daddy issues but Andrea disagrees because if they didn’t have daddy issues they wouldn’t be hot girls looking for attention. They’d be women sitting at home on the couch with their husbands watching TV and eating ice cream. Ironically enough, that is exactly what I’m doing at this very minute. Love you, Daddy! Anyway, Sam would love a husband and ice cream and decides that she needs a gun so she can go hunting with her dad.

Sam greets Howard in the morning and says she’s going hunting with him. He says no. So Sam makes a stowaway attempt but hides out in the wrong car. Samantha convinces her mom to drive her up to the hunting site with the promise that she can tell Sam about a dream Regina had about Samuel L. Jackson.

Sam surprises her dad in the deer stand and won’t shut up about having a relationship with him. He is not happy about having his hunting interrupted.

Back in the present, we see that Dena was driving Sam to the sporting goods store to return the rifle she bought. Dena suggests trading the gun for a fishing boat because if you get a guy alone on a lake he has to talk to you and listen to the song you wrote about him. Ok, writers, listen up…we want more Dena! About that time, Nathan shows up and freaks out at seeing Sam with a gun.

Sam sits in a police station next to a cute little boy who asks what she did. She says she was trying to win her father’s love and the confesses to breaking into a car. Sam cutely exclaims “I can do that!” Hee. Howard picks her up at the police station and on the way home…flashback time! A teenage Sam waits for her mom to pick her up from the salon but Dad shows up instead. Teenage Sam freaks out about everything including her jacked up bangs while “We Got The Beat” plays on the radio. Back to now, Sam realizes she was a handful teenager. She apologizes to her dad and they make up. She tells him she needs her daddy. Aw.

Sam is at Todd’s apartment talking at him about what happened. Was this scene necessary? I think it was just a way to work Frank the doorman in. Anyway, Sam is talking with Frank about his daughter. Sam asks if he told his daughter he loved her and he admits to not doing so that day. Howard is picking Sam up from the building and he shows up with ice cream. Frank calls his daughter. Sam voice-overs that she never would have patched things up with her dad if it weren’t for Nathan and that maybe she should call and tell him.
