Samantha Who?
"The Job"

Original Air Date: October 22, 2007

Samantha voiceovers about a dream that she was hit by a car, lost her memory, and moved in with her parents. She quickly realizes that this dream is a horrible reality when her mother, Regina, is all in her face rising and shining her and reminding her she’s not in a coma anymore. Later that morning Samantha’s parents introduce her to her childhood friend, Dena, and then proceed to talk to her like she’s a foreign exchange student with a loose grasp on the English language rather than a person who had amnesia. Samantha finds a card in her purse that she thinks is to remind her of an appointment with her neurologist.

As Dena drives Sam to her doctor’s office, we find out that pre-amnesia Sam was a jerk. When Dena’s mom died Samantha had them postpone the date of the funeral so she could attend, but then didn’t bother to show up. Dena sweetly tells her it’s ok because she sent beautiful flowers, only not really.

Remember that promising neurologist appointment? After the doctor asks Sam to open the front of her paper gown so he can examine her breasts (without gloves, ew) she figures out her appointment was for a boob job.

Samantha catches up with colleague Andrea in a lobby. Sam talks about the boob job and Andrea says it’s a great idea. Sam remembers that she’s afraid of elevators. Andrea takes Sam to her office where we find out that Sam is a Vice President of something. Questioning of Andrea informs us that she told the office staff that Sam is in rehab. A meek secretary named Tracy comes by and gives Sam what we are to assume is Sam’s daily apple, after Tracy takes the first bite as usual. Gross. Sam’s boss, Mr. Chapman, tells her she needs to be at an 11 a.m. meeting for something, but doesn’t say what. Let me guess, Sam has no clue what it’s about.

Samantha changes into work attire at her ex-boyfriend Kevin’s place. She asks him what her job is but he doesn’t know. He only knows that she banned birthdays and that they have all the confiscated cake in the freezer.

In the meeting, there’s some discussion about tearing down a church to build a strip mall when Sam discovers she’s a real estate developer. The meeting goes downhill when Sam inadvertently brown-noses the whole thing and everyone gives her the stink-eye, including an eager beaver brunette who doesn’t like having her thunder stolen. Sam thinks someone can take this job and shove it.

Sam complains to Regina that she doesn’t like her job. Regina suggests that she quit and that they do a puzzle tonight, but Sam is going out to discover herself and her new life. Mom says that her new life sounds a lot like her old life since it doesn’t include her family.

Over drinks with Andrea and Dena, Sam waxes philosophical about how getting hit by a car is a sign that she should redo her life. She takes this to mean that she should quit her job. When Sam’s credit card is declined she finds out that she’s $30K in debt from her shallow lifestyle that included copious amounts of highlights, makeup, and shoes.

Sam meets with Mr. Chapman to talk about improving her job. She suggests that they not tear down the church. Chapman is not buying it. Outside the door, Andrea implies that the way to get to Chapman is to show some skin and Sam suddenly remembers why she wanted that boob job in the first place. Cut to Sam’s flashback where Eager Beaver from the meeting is clearing Sam’s office because she’s taking over Sam’s client. The reason Eager Beaver got the client? Her ginormous breast implants suggested by Mr. Chapman.

Returning from the flashback, Sam rushes back into Chapman’s office and demands that the church be left alone or she is going to sue for sexual harassment because she knows that he suggested Eager Beaver get new boobs. Chapman grudgingly agrees to let the church be.

Sam un-bans birthday parties and throws one for Tracy. Andrea tells Sam Tracy is diabetic just as Tracy is about to chow on some cake. Oops. Later, Sam shares a moment with Regina over a jigsaw puzzle. Aww.
