Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne or is he?
Well at the end of this movie we find out the answer to all these questions and more. Well maybe not more.
The third installment of the Bourne trilogy is a fast paced, heart pounding thrilling experience. Unlike your typically summer action flick, The Bourne Ultimatum has a more realistic feel to its action. It’s not realistic but it’s also not over the top craziness.
Matt Damon maybe an unusual action star, but he fits into the character extremely well. The jaw dropping way in which Jason Bourne can disarm a man could make James Bond jealous.
Nothing about this film is slow. The story is not complex and the action and tension hold us through the beginning of this film as it unfolds and we join Jason Bourne in his search for the answers to his past.
The cast is full of a-list talent like David Strathairn, Scott Glenn, Albert Finney, and Joan Allen all who are very underused. Joan Allen is the only real stand out performance and still there isn’t much for her to do. The real star of this film is its fights and its action sequences. They never disappoint and always seem to move the story along. This is the work of great director Paul Greengrass.
The only real flaw in this film is its ending. It feels like we have gone through three films looking for these answers and when we get there ... well... I guess we are all hoping for the Usual Suspects. Something clever and unexpected, but it’s not.
The movie is very entertaining and worth seeing because of the great action and tension created by the director and stars, I only wish the ending had a bigger punch.
I give it a solid B.
