American Idol Journal
Diana Ross night has come and gone. I'd be very annoyed if I was a guy having to pick a Diana Ross song. I'm going to do an online journal just like The Sports Guy does for ESPN.COM
8:02 The voice over intro about Idol stars who have done well. They don't mention Clay, Ruben or Taylor. Nice guys. They do mention Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson who have shunned the show in any acceptance speech they make.
8:05 Ryan shows us the theater and introduces the group.
8:08 We get first sight of Diana Ross' hair. WOW! That things the size of an aircraft carrier.
8:12 Brandon is first and sings "Can't Hurry Love" - he missed notes, forgot words, boring. BLAH
8:14 Simon gets booed for being honest.
8:15 Commercial. Hey kids BONES is coming back to Fox. Does anyone watch this?
8:17 Coke sponsors asking questions to the contestants. Yeah, great idea, blah. We get to hear Melinda talk about sneakers and high heels and Simon and Ryan have a fight where they call each other gay for a solid minute.
8:19 Melinda takes to the stage and sings Home from The Wiz. How many times do I have to tell these people that ballads never are exciting. Why not Ease on Down the Road?! Yup, she sang it well, but it was really boring to me. I hate ballads.
8:21 Paula is already crying. Get a grip.
8:23 Ryan is talking and his mic isn't on. Nice job Fox.
8:25 Fro Patrol is in the house (a sign in the crowd) to listen to Chris Sligh sing Endless Love. Which, I'm sorry, I can't listen to without thinking of the Zamboni guy in Happy Madison. He lost the glasses, changed the song a bit, but did an ok job. Randy said it sounded like a ColdPlay song, I would have to agree.
8:30 More commercials.
8:33 How is 'Til Death still on the air?
8:34 Gina is going to sing Love Child. Diana thinks she has "incredible vocal ability" but wants to remind her to enunciate because there are so many words. She's a genius. I think.
8:34 Poor Gina, she's fine, but doesn't stand a chance against these other women.
8:37 Randy doesn't like anything tonight. Paula has stopped crying and has actually been rude to the last two people. (obvious she wants Melinda to win) Simon is middle of the road. How is he wearing a vneck Hanes tshirt on national television as a 'costume'?
8:39 Commercials. Really? 5 minutes between commercials?
8:43 Diana thinks Sanjaya is "love". Is that Motown for "Bad"?
8:44 Sanjaya "sings" Ain't No Mountain High Enough. My Drama Club kids did WAY better than this last year with this song. WAIT!! HE HAS A PERM! WHAT THE HELL AM I LOOKING AT!? DID DIANA DO HIS HAIR!? Oh man, this was BAD.
8:46 Randy is laughing at him. "It wasn't very good...Thank God for the background singers." Simon thinks Diana Ross is "wailing" wherever she is.
8:48 Ryan just referred to a whale as Marine Biology. Ok.
8:48 Commercials again. This is insane. One person between commercials.
8:53 Haley gets interviewed. Remember folks, this is brought to you by Coke. In case you forgot, the entire set is lit up with the Coke logo.
8:55 Missing You. A ballad. Yikes. Diana says she has a recording studio voice, not a live voice. That's not good.
8:56 Haley uses a stool to sit on and sing. Does that ever work for anyone? Nope. This is a forgettable performance. Good chance she's outta here. She forgot the words too.
8:58 Paula hated it. Simon says it wasn't that bad and Haley finally cries.
9:01 Hey look kids, Big Ben, Parliment, Commercials.
9:01 Will Farrell is in a movie where he has bad hair and yells a lot. I think I've seen this before. A million times. I'll love it if it has Walker and Texas Ranger though!
9:02 Jennifer Love Hewitt in a bra commercial. Remember when she was the little kid on Kids Incorporated?
9:05 Moby meets Diana Ross. Oh, wait, no it's Phil Stacey. My first guess to be voted off. Let's see if I'm right.
9:07 He sings Make You Love Me. He's trying real hard. He's not great, but WAY better than Sanjaya. He should stay around another week, but I could still be right that he goes. His bald head scares me, put the Powder hat back on man.
9:10 Commercials, I miss watching the show on my DVR.
9:14 LaKisha shows up, referring to herself as Kiki. She's going to sing God Bless the Child from the Billie Holiday movie "Lady Sings the Blues".
9:16 Kiki knocked it out of course. It's a great torch song I've never heard. But rather boring to me. I bet Randy loves it.
9:18 Yup, Randy did. "Sensational" Yet, if anyone else stands around like Kiki did and they would kill them. Her voice saves her.
9:20 Commercials. I'll have to add up how many of the 120 minutes were in commercials.
9:25 Blake Lewis gets a Coke viewer question. Too boring to repeat.
9:26 He took You Keep Me Hanging On and put all his own beats in it. Diana liked it.
9:26 Ok, I liked it too. He's a very good all around performer.
9:29 Paula gave him a Standing O. Randy didn't like that he "Blake-ized" it.
9:30 Commercials. Yup. One with Judy Garland singing "What'll I Do" called "Empty" makes you remember what REAL singing is like after watching someone like Sanjaya.
9:35 We're up to 35 minutes in commercials. Stephanie goes over Love Hangover with Diana.
9:36 Stephanie has some fun. But again, it's rather boring to me. That could sum up the whole night for me so far. She forgot some words too. Not a great performance for her.
9:38 The judges agree with me.
9:40 Chris Richardson shows up. He's singing The Boss. I'm just excited I get to see two people in a row. Diana said he needs to work it.
9:41 I think he's trying to work it, but it sounds off key to me. Seriously, this sounds really strange to me.
9:43 Simon agrees with me. "Dreadful".
9:45 Final commercials.
9:49 Jordin tries out Go This Way Together with Diana who tells her to "talk to them". I'm still trying to figure out that one.
9:50 The song is from The Land Before Time. I think this is Jordin's 10th song from animation, isn't it? Ballad. Very good, but very boring.
9:53 Randy said she made it a three girl race to win with Melinda and Kiki. Paula and Simon actually agreed.
9:54 Jordin TOWERS over Ryan. He's short.
My final notes: Just about 40 minutes of commercials, that's 1/3 the time!! And this performance show bored me. Except maybe the Jennifer Love Hewitt commercial. And I just can't get over that LaKeisha is called Kiki. Doesn't look like a Kiki to me. Sanjaya was hands down the worst and Blake put on the best show in my opinion.
So, what did you think? Who is going home? Who had the best performance?

I agree, boring all around. Highlights were Lakisha, Melinda and Jordin. Sometimes ballads are ok. I agree that Blake keeps it interesting, but he was a bit off with the vocals. I took Simon's cue and replayed Blake and Chris Richardson without watching..just listening. "Dreadful" sums it up!
ReplyDeleteAnd don't even get me started on Sanjaya. I couldn't stop laughing..just put him in a dress already!
