This week, the episode starts out with a ripped from the headlines story that is uncomfortably similar to the Caylee Anthony tragedy. Hilary Duff guest stars as Ashlee Walker, the young mother of baby Sierra who claims she left her baby with a babysitter. Her mother (guest star Gail O’Grady) goes to the Special Victims Unit when she hasn’t seen her granddaughter in days and doesn’t believe the babysitter story.

  1. This week, the episode starts out with a ripped from the headlines story that is uncomfortably similar to the Caylee Anthony tragedy. Four Notable Things About This Week’s Episode:

    1. I’m not going to lie, the nearly identical to Caylee Anthony storyline made me uncomfortable. It was well done, I suppose but it didn’t even try to be different until halfway through. It seemed in bad taste to me.

    2. That being said, I liked how Hilary Duff and Gail O’Grady played their roles. They were believable and tragic but I just wish it had been completely fictional, instead of partially. The real standout for me was Mike Pniewski, who played Ralph Walker, the grandfather who got sober for Sierra. That was such a heartbreaking role and I really felt for him. Trivia note! Did you notice Tonye Patano, who played Heylia James on Weeds as the judge?

    3. The twists. I liked most of the twists, even as they got more and more far-fetched. Sierra didn’t die from Ashlee’s negligence or spanking, she died from measles, which she caught at the park from a boy who’s mother didn’t have him vaccinated. Then, the detectives arrest Monica Stewart, the mother of the boy and try to charge her with the murder of Sierra. The case falls apart and there’s that fantastic moment in the bathroom with Ashlee, her father, Ralph and Olivia where Ralph convinces Ashlee this is her moment to turn her life around. Too bad her mother sees things differently and they throw bricks at Monica’s house. Ralph rushes past them inside the house and shoots himself in front of Monica. The whole thing is so depressing and I wish it had ended differently.

    4. Noel Fisher returned as that annoying kid from the medical examiner’s office. Why does this character exist? He tipped off the press and yells “Oh, we got a body here!” in front of the media. Stabler asks what’s wrong him and I totally agree. What is the point of this character? He’s distracting and he makes me angry.
