Why Do Today What You Can Put Off Till Tomorrow?

Entertainment Weekly has a list of their favorite on-screen slackers.

You'll find the usual, Ferris Bueller, Spicoli, Homer Simpson etc. but a nice little addition? Our boy Creed! It's more proof that EVERYONE loves Creed!

CREED (CREED BRATTON)
The Office

Dunder Mifflin's bizarre Quality Assurance rep's talents include eating at his desk, identifying strains of cannabis, and stealing things. They do not include assuring quality — in season 3, his negligence led to an obscene watermark scandal. He also has a blog (slacker sirens just went off!) called Creed Thoughts that NBC keeps updated regularly, even though on Creed's computer, it was just a Word doc with a Web address at the top. — Annie Barrett

MORE "Office" Convention News!!

The "Party Planning Committee" in Scranton has added two new events to their list they posted the other day.

One is the Dunder Mifflin Stockholders Meeting presented by the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce (Sunday, October 28). This would be a fun presentation I would have to guess!

The other is a little more interesting to fans of TheTwoCents!!

Bloggers' Breakfast (Sunday, October 28)!!

That's right! And guess who is a part of it? US! TheTwoCents.com will be a part of the Blogger's Breakfast! So, if you're going to Scranton - we finally get to meet!

So, I'm dying to know - who IS going to Scranton? What do you think of this?

After being lead on the grand tour of The Office set & sitting at Pam Beesly's desk & stealing a "THIS MAN IS A PERVERT!" flyer from the wall I figured that my weekend in Los Angeles could not possibly get any better.

Then Bob (Bobby Ray Shafer who plays Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration) asked Sarah (founder of TheOfficeChat.com), Claudia, & I if we wanted to go get lunch. He drove us to a mall & we drove around the parking lot for about 10 minutes before we saw a row of trailers. We walked into the mall & Bob took us around in circles & it became apparent that he was looking for something. We did not know what. Finally, he saw someone & said,"Where is The Office?" The person pointed down a scary hallway that lead to a steel door. Bob opened it. It was definitely a "It's like Lost when they met the Others" Dwight Schrute moment. We walked out into a parking garage. All of a sudden in front of us out walked Michael Scott, Pam Beesly, Meredith Palmer, Angela Martin & Karen Fillipelli. They were all in costume & walking out of a shot. I saw that to my left was a small film crew. Someone yelled "Cut!" & it was time to go to lunch. A group of white vans came & picked everyone (including us!) up.

I was in the van with a couple of PA's & a few makeup & wardrobe ladies. We arrived at the trailers & there was the infamous buffet of FABULOUS food! As I stood there piling my plate with food I soaked in the entire scene. Behind me Rashida Jones had taken off her shoes & put on a pair of Uggs. A couple of the PA's were looking for Mindy Kaling. Jenna Fischer had put on a light jacket & was standing about 2 feet away from me. She was still in costume & really looked like she was still in Pam-mode so I didn't have a clue what to say. So I didn't say anything. Angela Kinsey was talking fast & loud to the chefs & Sarah motioned to me to look around. I turned & right across the table from me was Steve Carell joking about the prime rib. I heard a PA tell them that there was only 30 minutes for lunch so I made the decision not to bother any of them.

Sarah, Claudia, & I walked into one of the trailers & sat down with the cast & crew. It's true! They all really do eat together cafeteria style in a giant trailer. Phyllis Smith & Kate Flannery walked in & Phyllis sat next ot me & Kate across from me. They were absolutely adorable & very different from their characters. Phyllis is a sweetheart & very serious & personable. Kate is a bundle of energy & even though she was in Meredith clothes her personality made her bloody gorgeous! She's adorable & talkative & so much fun. When she realized who we were she got back up out of her seat & gave us all hugs & said how weird it was to see people in 3-D after seeing their pictures online all the time. Over on my far left I saw Gene Stupnitsky (writer) eating with the legendary Harold Ramis who directed the episode! I ate lunch in the same room as a Ghostbuster! :)

It was really fun to see everyone interact with each other because everyone called each other by their character names. Bob kept referring to Phyllis as his wife & that was too funny. One of the PA's came in & announced that lunch was over & that everyone was to go back to wherever they were supposed to be. Kate told us that she'd see us at Paley & definitely at her Lampshades show on Saturday. Phyllis said that she wanted pictures at Paley Fest later that night. We said 'goodbye' to everyone & Bob drove us back to our hotel. There are many words to describe that day & the weekend that followed but the only appropriate one is "dawesome."

"My Name Is Earl" Repeat Recap & Review - "Two Balls, Two Strikes"

My Name Is Earl
"Two Balls, Two Strikes"

Original Air Date - April 19, 2007

TwoCents Staff Writer

Camden’s resident strip club owner, Chubby has died from a hole in the head from a vodka-filled gun. While Earl and his friends, along with everyone from construction workers to the ladies Chubby employed, remember Chubby at his funeral, a white limo pulls up. Out comes Little Chubby, or L.C., who is now the most powerful man in Camden County now that Big Chubby is dead.

Earl remembers how Little Chubby loved to torment Camden’s residents, including himself with a dart through the ear. L.C. even made a pregnant Joy drink from a glass containing Randy’s former rat-tail in order to avoid losing her own hair to Little Chubby’s knife. To get even, Earl kicked Little Chubby’s, well, “Little Chubbies.” Earl had put him on his List when he made it the pain from Little Chubby’s injured man parts lingered for weeks. The pain also made L.C. realize that everyone hated him and he needed to be nicer, or so Earl thinks.

When L.C. returns to Camden, he asks Earl and company to join him at the Chubby mansion since he considers them to be his friends. While drinking fresh lemonade and living it up, Earl forgets all about crossing L.C. off of the List until an open robe reveals Little Chubby’s shriveled Little Chubbies.

Earl can’t get the image of the horribly deformed man parts off of his mind. He decides to talk to Little Chubby about the parts and discovers that L.C. hasn’t been to a doctor. Both go to the doctor and Little Chubby gets an operation to fix his broken Little Chubbies. Little Chubby is nicer because the injury has prevented testosterone from being produced. He stays in Earl and Randy’s motel room until he heals and begins to act aggressive again. He sets fire to Randy’s new rat-tail and shoots at Darnell and his children at the mansion. Everyone pleads for Earl to do something about the return of evil Little Chubby.

While confronting L.C., Earl gets knocked out by Little Chubby and tied to his batting cage at the mansion. Little Chubby lets balls hurl towards Earl’s man parts while taunting him by hitting them away. Only singing “Freebird” reminding L.C. that he is his mother’s son, too (she sang it to Little Chubby whenever he felt scared) makes L.C. step in front of a 90 mile-per-hour baseball and injury his Little Chubbies again. Little Chubby thanks Earl for reminding him that he likes to be loved a lot more than having his testosterone make him evil with working man parts.

Overall, I give the episode a B+ since it has a few good laughs and a great cameo by Night Court’s Charles Robinson as the doctor who sees Little Chubby. Norm McDonald is also really good as Little Chubby and the entire scenario of his injured Little Chubbies is pretty funny.

Two Cents & Five Questions With...

... Ken Jeong, Actor

Dr. Kuni looked familiar to you in "Knocked Up" right? Well he should!

Dr. Kuni was played by Ken Jeong, who is known to Dunderheads as "Bill" from Michael's improv class! You know Bill! He was the fortune teller who Michael whispered to that he had a gun!

As we spend the summer looking to shine light on the people in the Office Universe, we were able to find Ken who spent some time with us to lend his Two Cents and Five Answers!

Enjoy!

TwoCents: Please tell TheTwoCents readers a little about yourself and how you got your start in "show biz".
Ken Jeong: I started doing theater while in college, got into med school, turned to standup comedy, moved to LA after my residency, got on TV doing standup and ultimately got back into acting. I'm glad I got all that in one long run-on sentence.

TC: You have appeared in shows such as: "Crossing Jordan", "Grounded for Life" and recently in the film "Knocked Up". What path led you to "The Office" to play Bill in the "Email Surveillance" episode?
KJ: I owe it all to Allison Jones, the casting director of "The Office." She is one of the most amazing people in the business. Prior to the Office, she would bring me in to read for other shows she was casting and was always supportive. I ended up reading for director Paul Feig (co-creator of "Freaks & Geeks") and writer/producer Jennifer Celotta and got the part.

I still can't believe that I did the Office. I am such a huge fan of the show and it's still my favorite show on TV. It's really hard to adapt something like the BBC version which had such a loyal American fanbase (myself included) and make it its own. The US version is so good no one compares to the British version anymore. No small feat.

And from "The Office," Allison Jones invited me to read for Knocked Up, which she was casting. She's the best.

TC: In "Email Surveillance" you are a part of Michael's improv class. What experience did you have with improv before doing the show?
KJ: I was in an improv group many moons ago, and when I first moved to LA I took a few Groundlings classes. I definitely loved seeing Michael Scott always begin every scene with a gun. Anyone who's ever taken an improv class appreciates that bit.

TC: How much of the scenes of the improv class were actually improvised? How much was filmed that wasn't used? Steve Carell is known to be a fun improvisor. Did he do a lot on the set?
KJ: They would shoot the scenes as scripted the first few takes, and then we would improvise after that. Steve Carell is amazing. I was starstruck. I couldn't hold a straight face most of the time.

I think my favorite outtake was when Michael Scott was kicking me during an improv scene and calling me Jim, in reference to Jim not inviting him to his BBQ in the episode. Michael Scott taking his hostility for Jim out on me was awesome.

The scene where I say "Good job" to Michael and he says Good job, Bill... not" was improvised. And Paul Feig would let us shoot it many different times. Steve Carell did so many outtakes, each one different. "Good job Bill... for sucking the comedy out of the room." "Good job Bill... who stinks at improv." It took me all the strength I had not to laugh.

The Office was definitely my favorite TV appearance.

TC: What future projects do you have coming up that the fans can look for you in?
KJ: Knocked Up is still out in theaters. Judd Apatow (the director & writer) is a genius. Knocked Up was the most amazing project I've ever been a part of. Words can't describe how much I loved the experience. I owe my career to Knocked Up and Judd. I learned so much from those guys.

I have a role in Pineapple Express starring Seth Rogen & James Franco (Judd is the producer), due out next summer. It's part stoner flick, part action movie. Someone described it as Knocked Up meets Reservoir Dogs. It will blow your mind.

I guest starred on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Boston Legal, and they will air in the fall.

I'm currently shooting a new film, All About Steve, starring Sandra Bullock, Thomas Haden Church, & Bradley Cooper (Wedding Crashers).

**TheTwoCents Bonus Question!!**
TC: If someone were to climb off a desert island and only have time to watch five movies to learn what American cinema is all about, what five movies would you show them?
KJ: Godfather II, Goodfellas, Borat, Spinal Tap & Knocked Up.

Many thanks go out to Ken Jeong for his time and for sharing his Two Cents & Five Answers with us!

Check back next week as we again shine the light on someone else from the "Office" Universe!

Get Ready for "Prison Break"!

Prison Break

Overview

Tom R.
TheTwoCents Staff Writer

Fox posts episode recaps on the Prison Break website, and each of those recaps take up about six pages. It’s one of the most tightly plotted shows on television, and regularly balances the large, incredibly talented cast to give each actor their fair share of memorable scenes. So my challenge becomes how to sum it all up quickly.

Here goes nothing…

Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) is framed for the murder of Terrence Steadman, brother to Vice President Caroline Reynolds. Facing execution, he pleads his innocence to his brother, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller). Scofield takes it upon himself to break his brother out of the Fox River State Penitentiary. Since Scofield helped to design the prison, he has access to the blueprints. He has the blueprints tattooed onto his body (along with other key components of the breakout plan) and commits a crime that will earn him a sentence at Fox River.

As season one ended, eight men made it over the wall. The second season followed their separate stories as they were pursued by police, former prison guards, Secret Service agents and FBI superagent Alex Mahone (William Fitchner). Also making regular appearances was an enigmatic older man who communicated only through written notes and carried a folder marked “SONA”.

As Caroline Reynolds assumed the presidency, Scofield worked to unravel the conspiracy that landed his brother in prison, learning that the alleged victim was not even dead. After failing to secure a presidential pardon, Scofield and Burrows fled the country for Panama, where the multiple stories once again began to intersect.

Burrows was cleared when Paul Kellerman, the President’s top agent, testified in order to clear Dr. Sara Tancredi, who assisted in the breakout. Sara headed to Central America to break the news to Michael and Linc, but they were met by Secret Service Agent Billy Kim, who planned to kill the three of them. Sara shot first, but Michael took the fall for the crime, ending up in a prison called Sona.

The news was given to the older man with the notepad, who was addressed as “General”.

“He’ll break out,” he was told. “It’s in his blood.”
“I know.” The General responded. “That’s what we want him to do.”

That recap of the first two seasons focused on the central crisis of the show. However, one of the strengths of this show is the ability to balance such a large cast to give each actor their share of memorable scenes. Season one played the breakout drama perfectly, as Scofield had to decide who he could trust and who he needed to keep close to avoid a double cross. Every commercial break was a cliffhanger, with Scofield’s plan and resolve tested again and again. Meanwhile, Linc’s attorney tried to unravel the conspiracy while protecting Linc’s son, LJ.

The series reinvented itself as it hit the road in season two, with Michael’s genius being tested by the resolve and guile of Mahone, who battled his own demons in the course of the chase. The mystery got deeper and deeper, balanced against some human drama of ex-convicts reuniting with their families and/or seeking redemption.

Prison Break returns for its third season on Monday, September 17 at 8 PM.

What Did YOU Do This Summer?

Well, I already know what Pam, Jim, Michael, Angela and everyone else in "The Office" was up to!

How?

I watched NBC's new video tease for the new season.

Now, I can't stress this enough - if you're not a person who likes any kind of spoilers, you DON'T want to watch this video. But if you don't mind a little tease - this is for you!

"NCIS" Actress Helps Fine America's Most Wanted

AMERICA’S MOST WANTED: AMERICA FIGHTS BACK teams with actress Pauley Perrette (“NCIS”) on the season premiere Saturday, Sept. 8 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. As AMW kicks off its 21st season, Perrette joins forces with host John Walsh to help find the killers of two young girls.

Like millions of other TV viewers, Perrette is an avid watcher of FOX’s crime-busting series. “I’m the biggest AMW fan, and always have been,” she says. “I talk about it all the time.” But an AMW broadcast this past spring prompted her to do more than talk. The show included stories about the unsolved murders of two young girls, Raven Jeffries in Detroit and Shannon Paulk in Prattville, AL. Perrette has family in Prattville, and her boyfriend is from Detroit. She saw it as a sign. “I couldn’t stop thinking about those two little girls and also how strange it was that it was Detroit and Prattville, his family, my family. It could be my niece, my family, it could have been anybody. It could have been anybody’s kid.”

After Perrette donated $10,000 to the reward fund for each girl’s case, AMW producers invited her to join their investigation. In the episode, Perrette travels to the crime scenes and other key locations in Alabama and Detroit, meets with detectives and learns more about Raven and Shannon’s tragic deaths. She’s calling on her fellow AMW viewers to do their part by sending tips to the show’s confidential hotline, 1-800-CRIME-TV.

Just a reminder that the October 26-28 company gathering is rapidly approaching. We're in talks with employees from all of our regional branches and everyone is very excited, especially the Scranton branch, who will be hosting the convention. We are, however, happy to announce many of the activities that we've already scheduled, and we are doing our best to encourage as large an attendance as possible. Here's a sampling of some of the planned activities:
Office Convention kick-off at the Radisson (5 p.m. Friday, October 26)

"Dancing With The Stars" The "Stars" Revealed

Maybe it should be called "Dancing With People You Have to Look-up to Know Who They Are"?

In a “Dancing with the Stars” first, twelve celebrities – six men and six women -- attempt to outshine one another on a fifth season of the hit series, which returns MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 (8:00-9:30 p.m., ET) on ABC. This marks the largest cast assembled to date. It includes an Emmy Award-winning actress, a Vegas icon, an Indy 500 champion, a Spice Girl, a daytime soap star, a Cheetah Girl and a former resident of “90210.” As an added twist, viewers get a chance to size up the male vs. the female stars, as each gender hits the dance floor on separate nights during the first week of competition. The women will strut their stuff on Monday night, while the men show off their moves TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 (8:00-9:30 p.m., ET). One couple’s fate will be determined the following night, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show.” Can the women outperform the men, or will the men dance circles around the women?

As announced today on “Good Morning America,” the twelve stars making their ballroom dancing debut are:

"Weeds" Recap & Review - "The Brick Dance"

Weeds
"The Brick Dance"

Original Air Date: Monday, August 27, 2007

By Maty
TwoCents Senior Staff Writer

This week little boxes was done in a disco Spanish version and they refused to tell us who sang it. I asked…nicely. I think it was Spanish…I don’t know, I kept hearing the word Casa so I thought it was Spanish.

Where were we? Oh yeah Nancy has decided to not have any secrets and tell the family everything just so they can be aware of the danger. She then asks the family “who has ideas for making a lot of money quick?" Shane says he has a stock portfolio worth $2600, and Nancy tells him to cash out. Shane replies if he liquidates now he’ll pay a penalty. Nancy insists.

Jump to Celia meeting with her divorce lawyer for the first time, played by the iconically great Carrie Fisher. (I’d much rather see her act then judging hacky film makers.) Celia finds out that her only real asset is her daughter's Huskeroos contract. (Huckeroos is a clothing line for chubby kids that Isabelle does commercials for.) She calls it a cash cow, which Celia agrees to the cow part of it. The lawyer suggests getting full custody of Isabelle is the best thing for her and offers to help the court see Dean as unfit by stating to Celia "You’re not the one who cupped her prepubescent breast after a few too many chardonnays”. Even Celia isn’t mean enough to make that up about on Dean.

Meanwhile Andy is back at the Army recruiter trying to convince them that since a dog bit off two of his toes that he’s not fit for duty. The Recruiter tells him we are at war and the rules have changed. Shane who came with Andy interjects with “actually…technically operation Iraqi Freedom is an extended military engagement. War’s not been declared.” They all argue for awhile and Andy is told that he won’t even see combat he’ll have a desk job.

Nancy goes to Doug to see about her finances, while Heylia and Conrad look for a new place to start their business. Conrad is going to grow for Heylia behind U-Turns back. Heyia says “you let me worry about U-turn, you just grow.”

Celia is trying to spend time with Isabelle, which isn’t working very well. The conditions of her hotel is pretty bad and Isabelle finds a used condom in her bed. The next day Isabelle calls family services on her and an agent shows up.

Andy is off to basic training. Silas is off to court. Nancy goes to pay U-turn what she has which is only about Seven Grand. U-turn is not happy with this and tells Nancy she is going to work it off in trade and sends her to pick up a package.

Nancy arrives at bar full of Spanish speaking gentleman. The situation is not good. Nancy asks for the package and is told she’ll only get it if she does a brick dance. After several tries Nancy lets go and does a suitable brick dance and gets the brick. Before she leaves they tell her to tell U-turn “he’s a lawn jockey now”.

Nancy gets back to U-turn who isn’t happy with the brick. He paid for something much bigger and he takes it out on Nancy. Raising her debt.

Shane gets sentenced by the judge to 6 months community service, because Celia asked for leniency. Nancy still won’t have anything to do with her.

Andy realizes that there is no desk job and he is in the army for real. Celia gets destroyed in a divorce court settlement and tells Isabelle “you want me out of your life? I’m out”.

Nancy is breaking up the brick U-turn told her to sell for him at a ridiculous profit when the doorbell rings. It’s a DEA agent who asks her about Peter, her dead ATF agent husband. BLACKOUT

This was a pretty good episode. A lot of the side stories got moved forward, but the main storyline seems to be stalled. I don’t need giant steps, just some movement. Maybe Nancy’s contact with the Spanish gang may lead to U-turns death…who knows. I just hate to see Nancy pay this guy off. I don’t think she can, for us to be satisfied. Next week we add Matthew Modine and soon after Mary Kate Olsen. So stay tuned.

I give this episode a Quarter of Swag. It looks like a nice bag but it’s dry and you have to de-Seed it. Who’s got an album cover I could use?

Are Celebrities Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?

As classes resume in schools across the country, celebrities also head back to the classroom to test their knowledge for charity on ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th GRADER? this November, Thursdays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

With host Jeff Foxworthy in his familiar place at the head of the class, entertainer Regis Philbin (“Live with Regis and Kelly”), on-air personality Billy Bush (“Access Hollywood”), AMERICAN IDOL finalists Clay Aiken and Kellie Pickler, skateboarding icon Tony Hawk and Miss America Lauren Nelson will add to the schoolroom antics as they try to ace the questions and earn money for charity.

The celebs will head back to class to tackle subjects they’ve already been taught – from art to geography and math to social studies. Will the light shining on these stars dim when questions prove to be challenging? This atypical game show measures adults’ lack of knowledge – as revealed by how much they’ve forgotten since grammar school. But there is a way to “cheat” in this classroom. Adults can get some elementary help by using a “peek,” “copy” or “save” from actual 5th grade classmates to determine the correct a-n-s-w-e-r and graduate toward the top prize of $1 million.

The second season of the A+ quiz show premieres Thursday, Sept. 6 (8:00-9:00 PM), and class will be in session twice a week with four original one-hour episodes airing Fridays, Sept. 14, Sept. 21, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

"Damages" Recap & Review - "Tastes Like A Ho Ho"

Damages
“Tastes Like A Ho Ho”

Original Air Date: August 14, 2007

By Tom R.
TwoCents Staff Writer

Sorry to leave this void for the past couple weeks. Some projects I had been working on bullied their way into Tuesday nights, and I wasn’t able to catch up during the week. Luckily I was able to catch them through Netscape.

Yeah, yeah…I know…“Interesting choice”.

The title comes from the beginning of the episode, with Patty’s flip reference to a Hostess snack cake whose name is frequently changed to avoid juvenile snickers. Oddly enough, it sets the tone for the episode, between sexual morays and temptation in general. The scene itself is a snack cake: Innocuous, kind of cute, disposable, but with a hook that draws you back later.

Present:
Katie identifies her brother’s body at the morgue. She wants to talk with Ellen, but the police will not let her. She learns that the engagement was called off, but she didn’t know. She tells the police that she and Ellen had a falling out and haven’t spoken for months.

Past:
Temptations abound as Tom is courted by a rival law firm with promises concerning his daughter’s future; David (Ellen’s fiancé…Don’t think I gave his name before) meets a cute relative of a patient he is treating; and Katie can’t keep away from Greg.

As Katie prepares her deposition regarding the Frobisher weekend, she recalls observing someone getting into a limo with Frobisher after she and Greg had been partying in a Florida nightclub. She draws a blank, but Greg recalls the name of the man, who was an assistant to Frobisher’s broker. Katie decides to use it in her deposition.

Great writing as Patty and Katie stage a mock deposition to prepare her for Fiske’s tactics. After almost cracking and being declared “not ready”, Katie gathers her resolve and tries again.

The shining moment (am I overusing that term?) comes as Katie is deposed by Fiske, and turns the tables on him by wearing her sexuality on her sleeve, not allowing him to trap her into admitting any “discrediting” trysts. However, the man who Greg fed to her was actually in Atlantic City, captured on an ATM camera at the time Katie says she saw him.

As Patty and Tom strategize Frobisher’s next move, we wonder even more about her motives and her strategy.

The key to Katie’s involvement is the man she saw as she lay on Greg’s couch in a drug-induced stupor.

Kudos also to the unorthodox version of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” that closes the episode. Also glad that they don’t feel the need to close every episode with a quick-flash.
They’ve built up a substantial bag of tricks. Use them all!

Now… If you’ll excuse me, I’m off for a Ding Dong and a glass of milk.

Damages airs Tuesdays at 10 PM on FX and repeats immediately and during the week.

"American Band" Host and Judges Announced

The producers behind mega-hit phenomenon AMERICAN IDOL take the musical reality genre to a whole new performance level with a mission to find undiscovered groups on THE NEXT GREAT AMERICAN BAND. Singer/songwriter John Rzeznik (The Goo Goo Dolls), legendary percussionist and performer Shelia E. (“The Glamorous Life,” “A Love Bizarre”) and Australian TV personality Ian “Dicko” Dickson (“Australian Idol”) will serve as judges while Dominic Bowden (“New Zealand Idol”) hosts the series premiering Friday, Oct. 19 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The show will air in its regular time period on Fridays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

From the auditions, the show’s judges – Rzeznik, Sheila E. and Dickson – will narrow down the hopefuls to 10 semifinalist bands who will perform weekly in front of a live studio audience. The judges will have their say after each performance, but viewers will vote for their favorite bands to determine who stays in the competition. Voting begins immediately after each show, and the results will be announced, by host Bowden, at the beginning of the following episode.

Each week, the bands will perform either original music or covers of varied styles. The range of genres will test their musical limits, and could also strike the wrong chord in their personal and professional relationships. The season finale brings the ultimate battle of the bands, with the last three groups competing to secure a contract with 19 Recordings and the title of “Next Great American Band.”

As guitarist and lead singer of The Goo Goo Dolls, John Rzeznik is the voice behind the platinum-selling, chart-topping act responsible for such radio staples as “Name,” “Iris,” “Slide” and “Here Is Gone.”

The fifth and youngest child of a Buffalo, NY, working-class family, Rzeznik inherited his lifelong love of music from his mother and father, both of whom were musicians. As a teen, Rzeznik found refuge in listening to Jagger-Richards classics, playing in bands and catching shows by the Ramones, the English Beat and the Clash. But it was in college that he met his Goo Goo Dolls bandmates and soon therafter scored a record deal with Celluloid Records, which released the band’s first album in 1987. The band later became affiliated with Warner Bros. and began the transformation from thrash-playing punks to respectable rockers unafraid to wear their hearts on their sleeve. Rzeznik and the band went on to achieve commercial success during their two decades in the music industry, selling 10 million records worldwide and placing 14 songs in the Top 10. Rzeznik is currently on a worldwide tour for their latest album, “Let Love In,” which was released in 2006. The four-time Grammy-nominated band also has two upcoming albums: “Greatest Hits Vol. I – The Singles,” to be released in November 2007, followed by a rarities collection in early 2008.

Since picking up drumsticks at the age of 3, Sheila E. has been a compelling force in the music industry. As a top session and touring musician in the 1980s, Shelia E. performed with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and Lionel Richie. But it was her friend Prince who helped catapult her into pop superstardom with the hits “The Glamorous Life” and “A Love Bizarre,” plus her work on numerous other Prince-related projects. Shelia E. has also served as musical director for Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé and Prince, and she became television’s first female music director for Magic Johnson's “The Magic Hour.” Recently, she appeared with and played drums for Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band. Her current project, C.O.E.D. (Chronicles Of Every Diva), is touring worldwide and preparing for a new record release. Along with her commitment to music, Sheila E. maintains a heavy involvement with charitable organizations, including serving as co-chair of the Elevate Hope Foundation, focusing on promoting music and arts to victims of child abuse.

A 20-year record industry veteran, Ian Dickson has taken the Australian television audience by storm as the bawdy judge on “Australian Idol.” Originally from England, Dickson began his career as a press and promotions manager at the independent label Creation Records, responsible for such groups as Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine and, most famously, Oasis. Dickson then moved on to Sony Music UK, where he served as the press officer for artists including LL Cool J, Midnight Oil and Michael Bolton, and later to the Epic Label as a marketing executive for Pearl Jam, Ozzy Osbourne and Celine Dion, among others.

After stints as Director of International for both Sony UK and AM Records, Dickson was appointed Vice President of International at BMG UK Group. While in this position, Dickson was given an opportunity to move to Australia and tackle the role of GM of Marketing for BMG Australia. It was this move that took Dickson’s already colorful career on a brand-new path, emerging from behind the scenes to the main stage when he was cast as a judge on the hit series “Australian Idol.”

Dickson has also appeared on the Australian version of “Dancing with the Stars” and hosted “Celebrity Survivor” and “My Restaurant Rules.” He has garnered such awards as “Fave Old Fart” and “Fave Meanie” from Nickelodeon in Australia. Dickson is also partner of talent management firm Watercooler Talent.

Dominic Bowden has been at the forefront of television in New Zealand for the past seven years. Bowden has graced the covers of magazines and hosts his own national radio show, but it was the opportunity to host New Zealand's version of “American Idol” that made him a household name. “New Zealand Idol” has taken its place in Kiwi pop culture and with it, Bowden has become one of the country's most recognizable faces. Although a new face to American viewers, Bowden has hosted major television events in New Zealand and appeared in several feature films and television series.

"Entourage" Recap & Review - "No Cannes Do"

“No Cannes Do”

So, last week we didn’t get to do a review (insert Drama’s voice) “Last time on Entourage…” E is now Ana Farris’ manager, her boyfriend (CSI:NY’s A.J. Buckley) is annoying at a photo shoot, Ari and Vince can’t get a hold of E all day which doesn’t make them happy. Billy didn’t write a script for Clouds as he was paid to do. Dana Gordon and Ari are going nuts. Billy has a gun, he’s locked in the bathroom because he wrote a futuristic movie but Vince loves it and talks Billy out of the suicide idea. Ari, trying to set everything right, shows up with the script and convinces the studio to go with it anyway!

Now, on to this week.

Open on Eric sitting atop the fancy new home on his phone. He’s having a 97 minute call with Ana. This call doesn’t seem to be all business. Ana has since dumped her annoying boyfriend (who spoke like Randy Jackson). Is this an opening for E?

Drama calls him on his “Clush” – client crush. E admits there is something there. E invited Ana to meet them at their going away party that night.

The boys arrive at a packed party to celebrate leaving for Cannes to support Medellin. Ari informs the boys that he is bringing Mrs. Ari to Cannes. But the biggest surprise? Turtle isn’t wearing a hat! Ana arrives and Billy is very intrigued. He now wants Ana in his new movie, playing Vince’s sister. Vince asks E to make it happen and that Billy promised not to hit on her.

Turtle brings the news that the nation is now in an elevated terror alert and a red advisory alert has been set.

Mrs. Ari tells Ari that she’s happy not to go to Cannes and begins to unpack. Ari is very suspicious. The rest of this story arc involved Mrs. Ari spending a LOT of money. Car, clothes, etc. Talking about ‘paying’ for it! Ouch. The person who IS upset they aren’t going to Cannes? Lloyd! Ari tells him to pick up some of his favorite chocolates for himself to get over it.

Turns out the terror scare is specific to LAX and they have a 3 hour delay. E, Billy and Vince will have a meeting with Ana in the downtime while Turtle and Drama go ‘sweep for unsavory characters’.

At the meeting – Billy admits to seeing “Scary Movie” 10 times. Ana is unsure about Billy or the story and keeps looking to E for reassurance which he can’t get himself to give.

Lloyd calls Ari and informs him that his therapist said he should express his distrust. Ari is loving this. Trying to keep everyone happy is never easy for Ari is it?

LAX is now closed – turn the limo back to the house. Cannes isn’t looking good at this point!

Ari calls Sydney Pollack. He agrees to let 5 people on jet, not 6 – Lloyd is out. Lloyd, in a very funny monologue tells Ari about going to mentally unpack.

E must convince Ana to do Billy’s movie – not because he thinks it’s the right thing, but because Vince needs/wants it. E goes to her house and she agrees to do the movie as he doesn’t say lies, but yet not the truth. She pours him some wine. They admit to thinking each other is cute, then he says – he doesn’t like the script.

The gang meets up with Sydney Pollack and Ari re-counts. Vince, E, Ari, Drama, Billy, Turtle. That’s SIX! Pollack has room for 5! Still one seat short. Turtle volunteers to not go but Vince will leave no man behind!

While Lloyd tells Ari that he is so mad he’s off on a Rosie cruise, Kanye West walks into the airport and after some talk with Turtle, is willing to take the full crew in his jet to Cannes.

Oh, a side note…. Ana fired Eric for lying.

I enjoyed this episode. It’s always fun when the whole crew is literally flying by the seat of their pants!

He ALWAYS Finds Work

You know those guys on TV who just ALWAYS seem to be showing up in pilots every year?

I think the king of them all could be Donal Logue. He just always seems to be on TV. Look at this list:

The Single Guy, Public Morals, Felicity, The Practice, ER, Grounded for Life and most recently The Knights of Prosperity.

Well, according to Hollywood Reporter, he's back again. "Donal Logue is returning to Fox as the star of comedy pilot "Hackett," which is being directed by Barry Sonnenfeld....which centers on a bad-boy literary luminary (Logue) who escapes his disgraced career teaching at Yale only to find himself among the ultra-PC ranks of teachers at an Ohio public high school."

"Big Love" Recap & Review - "Oh, Pioneers"

"Oh, Pioneers"

Okay, big season finale things – Alby will remain in charge of the UEB and the Compound. After Adaleen brings Roman to Nicki’s to get him away from Alby and his wife’s drugging, Bill sends him back, fully recovered, to claim the leadership position again and support Bill and Weber Gaming. Although, when Joey brings Roman back, Alby has the police waiting to arrest Roman. Next season will prove to be a constant struggle between Alby and Bill.

Also, Anna is back. After Bill dumped her, Margene brought her back into the family as a friend. Seeing Anna and Bill together sends Barb into a panic – she finally draws a line in the sand – I have been waiting all season for this. She starts by outing the family to the neighbors – then she states to bill “I am thee wife or nothing, I have to be number one and that’s it.” Yeah for Barb.

Interestingly, all three wives seemed to assert their individuality and strength in this episode. Barb with her line in the sand saying “I don’t want a forth.” Nicki also yells at Bill saying she has sacrificed so much for this family and it’s time for Bill to sacrifice. She won’t let him get Roman and Alby thrown off the council. Most shockingly, Margene really asserts herself in this episode. She decides to be a surrogate mom for the neighbors. She also decides to be assertive about bringing Anna around to the house – even given her history with Bill.

We’re left wondering if Anna is going to come back next season – is Bill going to date her? Is Barb going to be forced to leave Bill or support the possibility of a fourth? How come when we think about Nicki and Margene dealing with Bill dating, it feels fine but when we think of Barb, we feel sorry for her, like it’s cheating? Strange.

On another note – the children are split. Ben has embraced the polygamist lifestyle fully, He says, “I have faith in dad and in this family. My sons and daughters will be born into polygamy and they’ll be happy.” Sarah on the other hand decides to “let go of all of it” by sleeping with her boyfriend. As Sarah leaves the family ideologically, Ben almost cements himself to their lifestyle forever.

To sum up my opinion of this episode, and the season in general, is that I have lost all respect for Bill. He seems more and more disconnected and uninterested in his ever growing family as they all struggle deeply with their feelings about the family. Bill himself sums it up the best when, sitting at his family picnic, his business partner asks him what he’s thinking about and he says “business.” Somehow, even given Bill’s lack of involvement, his family stays together. There’s something stronger keeping them all there, something other than Bill. My biggest hope for next season is that Bill will step up. This season has left me sadly disappointed.
